~Playing By Heart...Week-End

Among the characters are a mature couple about to renew their vows (Sean Connery and Gena Rowlands); a woman (Gillian Anderson) who accepts a date offer from a stranger (Jon Stewart); a gay man dying of AIDS (Jay Mohr) and his mother (Ellen Burstyn) who has struggled to accept him; two clubbers who meet in a nightclub (Ryan Phillippe and Angelina Jolie); a couple having an affair (Anthony Edwards and Madeleine Stowe) and a man (Dennis Quaid) who tells his tragic life story to a woman he meets in a bar (Patricia Clarkson), but seems to have a strange connection to another mysterious woman. As the film continues and the stories evolve, the connections between the characters become evident. Kellie Waymire, Nastassja Kinski, Alec Mapa, Amanda Peet and Michael Emerson also have roles in the film.

~Sayonara...Week-End

Happy week-end to all! This week-end I bring to you movie that's not widely know. In fact it was really tough to find. So, I hope you really enjoy it!
Sayonara (1957)
A US air force major in Kobe confronts his own opposition to marriages between American servicemen and Japanese women when he falls for a beautiful performer.

"Sayonara Cherry Blossom Egg Rolls"
from Sage Trifle~
1 pound fresh cherries, halved
2 Tbsp. brown sugar, adjust to your taste and the sweetness of the cherries
1 Tbsp. cornstarch
10 - 12 egg roll wrappers
1 egg, lightly beaten
Turbinado sugar
Powdered sugar for serving, if desired

Mix together the pitted and halved cherries, the sugar, and the cornstarch. Let the mixture sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, to macerate.

Put a mound of cherries onto the center of an egg roll wrapper and roll up into a little envelope. Place seam down on a lightly oiled baking sheet. Brush with the beaten egg and sprinkle with turbinado sugar. Bake in preheated 375 oven for 15 to 20 minutes. Remove to a baking rack to cool.
