Among the characters are a mature couple about to renew their vows (Sean Connery and Gena Rowlands); a woman (Gillian Anderson) who accepts a date offer from a stranger (Jon Stewart); a gay man dying of AIDS (Jay Mohr) and his mother (Ellen Burstyn) who has struggled to accept him; two clubbers who meet in a nightclub (Ryan Phillippe and Angelina Jolie); a couple having an affair (Anthony Edwards and Madeleine Stowe) and a man (Dennis Quaid) who tells his tragic life story to a woman he meets in a bar (Patricia Clarkson), but seems to have a strange connection to another mysterious woman. As the film continues and the stories evolve, the connections between the characters become evident. Kellie Waymire, Nastassja Kinski, Alec Mapa, Amanda Peet and Michael Emerson also have roles in the film.
"Playing By Tarts"
1 pkg Puff Pastry Sheets, thawed
1 egg, beaten
1 box instant vanilla pudding (4 serving size)
1 3/4 cups milk
1/2 cup fresh fruit or berries, cut-up if necessary
Heat oven to 375º and lightly grease 24 muffin pan cups.
Unfold one sheet of the pastry on a lightly floured surface. Roll into a 9×12 rectangle. Cut into 12 (3 inch) squares. Repeat with other pastry sheet. Press the squares into the muffin pans. Brush with beaten egg.
Bake for 10 minutes or until the cups are puffed and golden. Remove from the cups and let pastry cool completely on wire racks.
Make the pudding with the above amount of milk according to pkg. directions. Cover and refrigerate for 15 minutes.
Spoon 1 tbsp pudding into each tart shell and top with fruit. Sprinkle with confectioner’s sugar.

Some Kind of Wonderful (1987)

Wonder Blintzes Recipe
Make 10 blintzes
1 loaf Wonder bread
"Some Kind of Wonder Blintzes"
4 tablespoons white sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 (8 ounces) packages cream cheese
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup melted butter
1 pint sour cream (optional)
Preheat the oven to 350º F. Spray cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray.
Trim crusts off Wonder bread and roll into flat slices. Combine sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. In a large mixing bowl, mix softened cream cheese, milk and vanilla until smooth. Spread this mixture onto each slice of flattened bread. Roll each bread slice up. Dip the bread rolls into melted butter and immediately in the sugar-cinnamon mixture. Cut rolls into 1 inch pieces. Arrange the blintzes on the prepared cookie sheet.
Bake for 10 minutes.

"Sayonara Cherry Blossom Egg Rolls"
from Sage Trifle~
1 pound fresh cherries, halved
2 Tbsp. brown sugar, adjust to your taste and the sweetness of the cherries
1 Tbsp. cornstarch
10 - 12 egg roll wrappers
1 egg, lightly beaten
Powdered sugar for serving, if desired
Mix together the pitted and halved cherries, the sugar, and the cornstarch. Let the mixture sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, to macerate.
Put a mound of cherries onto the center of an egg roll wrapper and roll up into a little envelope. Place seam down on a lightly oiled baking sheet. Brush with the beaten egg and sprinkle with turbinado sugar. Bake in preheated 375 oven for 15 to 20 minutes. Remove to a baking rack to cool.

Chop the chocolate into small pieces and place it in the top of a double boiler over simmering water, stirring occasionally until melted. Add the cocoa and sugar, stirring constantly until thoroughly blended. Remove from heat and slowly add 1/2 cup of the milk and stir until smooth. Cool to room temperature.
In a blender place the remaining cup of milk, the room temperature chocolate mixture, and the ice. Blend on high speed until smooth and the consistency of a frozen daiquiri. Pour into a giant goblet and top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings. Enjoy with a spoon or a straw. . . .or both!
